Community Health Centers Prepare to Administer H1N1 Vaccines
Provider Enrollment
To administer the H1N1 influenza vaccine, providers must complete the MDCH Vaccine Provider Agreement AND return it to your Local Health Department (LHD). H1N1 vaccine will be distributed in amounts of 100 doses per presentation (e.g., prefilled syringes, multiple dose vials). If this is more vaccine than you are likely to administer, contact your LHD for assistance in obtaining s smaller number of doses. In addition, to assure accurate vaccine tracking, patient recall, and adverse event monitoring, all providers are required to use MCIR to track and document dispensing. For more information, contact Carolee Besteman, MPCA Clinical Consultant, at cbesteman@mpca.net or 517.381.8000 x204.
H1N1 Vaccine Administration Billing
While there is no charge for the H1N1 vaccine, providers may charge an administration fee. There are still significant gaps in determining Health Center reimbursement for administration of vaccine; Health Centers bill and are reimbursed somewhat differently than other Medicaid and Medicare providers. HRSA and CMS are working on these issues and are expected to release guidance soon.
